What are Auditory-Based methodologies?

Auditory methodologies typically refer to "auditory-verbal" or "auditory-oral" approaches.

Both approaches are intended to promote listening, thinking, speaking, and communicating for children with all degrees of hearing loss.  Both approaches emphasize "brain access" through residual hearing aided by the most appropriate technology (hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems, etc.) to establish listening, thinking, speaking, and communicating.

Both approaches require that hearing is emphasized and utilized before vision.

If the outcome that is desired by the family is spoken communication, the child's auditory brain centers must be accessed and developed.
