Professional experiences:

Carol Flexer was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. She has taught at Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas, and at Kent State University. She has been at The University of Akron for 23 years and is currently a Distinguished Professor of Audiology.

Special areas of expertise include pediatric and educational audiology. She has lectured internationally, authored over 140 publications, and served as consultant to many school districts regarding educational and technological management of typical children and children with hearing loss. She has co-edited three books: HOW THE STUDENT WITH HEARING LOSS CAN SUCCEED IN COLLEGE (1st & 2nd edition), and SOUND-FIELD FM AMPLIFICATION: THEORY AND PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS. She has authored two books titled, FACILITATING HEARING AND LISTENING IN YOUNG CHILDREN (1st and 2nd editions).

Dr. Flexer is a past president of the EDUCATIONAL AUDIOLOGY ASSOCIATION, past Board member of AUDITORY-VERBAL INTERNATIONAL, and past president of THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF AUDIOLOGY.

She is licensed to practice audiology in the state of Ohio. In addition, she holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). She is a Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist (Cert-AVT), and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (FAAA).

Dr. Flexer is married and has three children and six grandchildren.
